Rebate Programs
Some Home
Improvements Help Pay For Themselves — in CASH!
In late 2003, the Canadian Government launched a grant program
to encourage homeowners, particularly those who have older homes, to make their homes more energy-efficient.
The program requires an initial EnerGuide for Houses
evaluation. The evaluation generally costs between $300.00 and
$325.00 and provides homeowners with specific opportunities
to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. The evaluation,
provided by an independent evaluator, can include a door and/or
window “blow-through” test to identify air-leakage points and
a comprehensive walk-through of your house identify your home's
primary uses of energy.
You will be provided with a customized EnerGuide for Houses
report with energy efficiency upgrade recommendations for your
home, as well as an estimate of annual energy consumption, an
EnerGuide for Houses rating and label.
When you have completed the recommended improvements, you can
request a follow-up visit to re-evaluate your home and update
your EnerGuide for Houses rating and label. Depending
on the recommendations you have carried out, you could be eligible
for a grant, the amount of which will depend on the difference
between the EnerGuide for Houses rating of the energy
efficiency of your home before and after the improvements.

Did you know that your business could be eligible for
rebates by making your commercial or industrial space more energy efficient?
The Energy Innovators Initiative encourages commercial
businesses and public institutions to invest in existing buildings
by updating them to improve energy efficiency.
Commercial businesses and institutions can apply for up to 50 percent of costs for energy audits, studies,
plans and other project facilitation measures that lead to energy efficiency updates, and for up to 25
percent of costs - based on projected energy savings - for lighting, heating, controls and other energy efficiency measures.
Through the Commercial Building Incentive Program,
Natural Resources Canada offers financial incentives for new
commercial and institutional buildings that incorporate energy
efficiency features. A building owner whose design uses at least
25 percent less energy than required by the Model National Energy
Code for Buildings can receive up to $60,000.
